Other Traffic Hold Ups in South Sudan

Further to my blog on top 3 causes of traffic in South Sudan, I feel I need to add the following two things to my list:

1. Unattended ox-ploughs in the middle of the “road”

To solve this one, you get out of the car, pick up the ox-plough and physically move the cows. They are slightly more stubborn than the goats – but I guess in their case, they have size on their side.

2. Finding the “road” and ensuring your car does not sink

For this one, you get out in your gum boots, and test each ditch for its depth and the stickiness of the mud. Then, when the car starts moving, you just pray.
